Solve your jammed drains troubles

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A clogged drain sounds horrible to begin with. Or while brushing your teeth by the sink, all of a sudden the sink starts to fill up. Nobody likes to deal with clogged up drainage because they are a real hassle and they give an impression of being unsanitary (because they are). But it is something that most people will have to deal with every once in a while. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unclog bathroom drainage.

Why do drainage get blocked, what is the underlying cause?.

choked drains can occur when some material such as hair, dust and particles become trapped in the area between your bathroom drain and the drainage pipes that follow underneath. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already blocked drainage. Eventually this will become more and more dense and this is what prevents your water running uninhibited through your drainpipe. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unclog the drain pipe.

How to unclog Your drainage.

Time to roll up your sleeves and tackle the clog – here are a few tips on what you can do to unclog your bathtub or sink drainpipe. The first step is to remove the plug whether the blocked drain is in a sink or bathtub. For a bathroom sink, if you have a traditional style plug this is an easy enough job, but if you have an integrated plug you will have to look under the sink to remove the nut that keeps it attached. For a bathtub you may be able to simply take out the plug, otherwise you might have to take off the overflow plate in order to get at the assembly.

The accumulated matter choking up your drainpipe may be clearly visible when you have taken off the plug. Whilst messy, it is nothing, but a mound of hair and fragments around the components of the bathroom drainpipe. Reach down into the pipe and pull out as much as possible. If it is out of reach, you can use a wire clothes hanger to remove it if you can hook into the debris and pull it. There is a good chance that by removing this mass of material the problem will be rectified and your water will flow smoothly.

If you need to disassemble the drain pipe and notice that the blockage is not even within reach of a wire hanger, you will have to try another method. Use a drain plunger to loosen the blockage that is deeper down the pipework. Begin by covering the overflow drain pipe with a wet towel so as to create a stronger suction from the plunger. Now put the plunger over the drainpipe and move it up and down continuously at an even pace. If you are successful, any water, if trapped, will be immediately drained when the plunger is released.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drainpipe clearing product. Chemicals used in these cleaners are deadly and are to be used only when all else fails as they can affect your sanitary fixtures and pose a health risk.

Call in the drainage Professionals.

If you are unable to unclog the drains even after trying all the methods, it is only advisable to call a professional plumber who has experience of drainage work. Alternatively experienced drainage contractors like Dynorod have all the necessary equipment required to unblock the drainage and inspect the interior with a CCTV inspection or drainage camera. It might cost you some money, but a plumber’s expertise can give quite a relief with this type of messy household problem.
