Solve your blocked drainage issues

Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. It’s definitely not a very good feeling! A clogged up drain pipe sounds horrible to begin with. Or you’re in front of the toilet sink, brushing your teeth and before you know it – the sink is halfway full. Clearing obstructed drains is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). But it is something that most people will have to deal with every once in a while. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unclog bathroom drains.

Why do drainage get plugged?.

They get choked when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drain. Everyday products like soaps, shampoos, detergents and so on add to the problem by building up around the solid material. Finally the accumulation becomes too thick to allow any water to pass through and it is then that the drains get completely blocked. If the water has started building up quickly in your tub or sink, then without delay you should unclog the drain.

So how can you unclog these drains?.

You can do a number of things to unblock your bath or bathroom sink drainpipe. First of all the plug should be removed. You can easily remove the stopper by pulling it off from the bathroom sink, however if it’s fixed under the sink then you need to unscrew the nuts. With respect to the bath, the screws have to be loosened to remove the plug or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.

Once you remove the stopper, you may then be able to see the source of the blockage. It will most certainly appear like a collection of hair and other particles covered with slimy material inside the drain pipe’s piping. Clear out as much of the blockage as possible. If the mass is located in a region, where it is difficult for you to grasp it and pull it out, then use a wire clothes hanger to dig into the clump and pull it back through the drainpipe pipe. Removing the hair, detergent residues and the rest of the material will surely solve your problem.

If you need to disassemble the drainpipe and notice that the blockage is not even within reach of a wire hanger, you will have to try another method. A very useful tool is a drain plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. In the first step, use a wet cloth to cover the overflowing drainpipe, and then use the plunger; this will make the suction stronger. Now position the plunger exactly over and around the drain pipe hole and push it rapidly up and down with short quick movements. When you let go of the plunger, any excess water should flow out right away if you have dislodged the blockage.

However, if this method also fails to have any affect you might have to use some sort of chemical cleaner. However this should be your last resort because the chemicals used can harm your bathroom fittings and accessories, they are corrosive.

Bring in the Pros for a professional drainage solution.

If after trying the various do-it-yourself methods you are still unable to unclog your drain, it is a good idea to call your local trusted plumber for some help. A professional plumber should quickly solve your problem with his special tools and equipment. Taking professional help will cost you a bit but it is definitely worth it.
