One of the most unsafe consequences of a plumbing system blockage is drainage backflow.

You might think of phoning your plumber if drainage is backing into your shower, toilets or bath tub. This sewage will contain microbes so it should be cleaned at once and your plumbing system should be repaired so as to prevent it from happening again.

As an immediate measure whilst waiting for help, use one cup bleach in every five Imperial gallons of water to clean up the area while you await the plumber. While doing so, don’t forget to wear eye wear, boots, gloves and long trousers, older people, pets and children should be kept away. Cleanse your hands later on with warm clean water and soap. Now the question is that how can you prevent sewage overflow during the problem? Well you can do so by not allowing too much water to go into the drainpipes.

As an underlying cause, the waste line could be blocked or there may be a stoppage between the shower and the toilet. Whatever the cause, protecting you and your family from harmful waste needs to be your first concern.

Diarrhea, stomach ache, fever, chills and vomiting are signs of exposure to drainage. Such symptoms require immediate medical help, contact a doctor if this happens.

All objects polluted by the drainage, including children’s play items, should be disinfected by mixing one cup of odorless household bleach for every five Imperial gallons of water. Items that cannot be cleansed (such as mattresses, stuffed animals, baby dolls, and wooden cutting boards) and food that may have been tainted by the sewerage should be thrown away.

If the drainage leakage was around the shower, you might want to use a snake, part of a plumbers toolkit. A plumbing snake that is a quarter inch thick and twenty five feet long will be the best choice. This size will be easier to guide through the pipe works. Sometimes in a bathroom the shower trap gets choked but at the same time the toilet remains unaffected. This happens because the toilet trap is installed about 6 inches above the floor and the shower drain is installed at the same level as the flooring.

If you can’t remove this leakage on your own, you should ask for professional help from a drainage company. A plumber will not only be able to clean up the mess that the leaked sewage created for you but also locate where the blockage is. It is wise to get a plumber in if you don’t have knowledge when is comes to sewage backups and other plumbing issues.
