I poured bleach down the drain, all the drains (all at once) if there are several in the room. Worked for me.

Call a plumber and have a P-trap installed. It gets installed where your drain pipe under the sink is U shaped. The smells are currently able to come up the drain because there is nothing there to block them; the P-trap causes just enough water to remain in the bend of the pipe to stop the odours from coming up. This job is less than one hour of a plumber's time and under $10 in materials. Until you have this done, you can just leave your cold water running -- the tiniest constant stream of water will do the trick. Pouring various products down the drain really won't help because each time the pipe gets dry the odour returns.

Yeah thats gross..I used to have that problem, but i moved out of that house!

I tried all kinds of things. I think the biggest thing you can do is change the section of piping that is closest to the drain's opening.
