Your best bet is to call the electric company to have the lines located. They will generally do this for free. They will mark where the lines are, so you can be careful digging in the area of them.

get the 800 # off of the stickers on underground equipment. if you look you should see them all over. in Ohio its called call before you dig. or look it up in the phone book. its usually free.
they will come out and spray paint line where all underground utilities are located. power, phone, water, sewer, etc. in Ohio its the law you must call. legally cover your a$$ and find the # and call

Locate both Gas and Electric lines before you dig.
The utilities will mark them for you on request.

call 811 (its a universal number to have underground utilities located) two business days before you start your project . electric services are usually 30-36 inches deep

How far down? Twice as far as halfway down……Your local utility company will gladly mark the line and tell you exactly how far down it is, free of charge. They provide this service to prevent the kind of trouble you’re worried about.
