Fixed seal on toilet now it’s not draining?
The seal in the toilet had a large gap which was letting odour in so a friend sealed the gab with silicon but now the toilet isn’t draining properly. It fills to the rim and then is very slow and doesn’t fully drain solids. It was flushing fine before this – though i have had problems with tree roots in the drain before.
Ask your friend if when they sealed it, did they flush paper towels down the drain?
If so, more than likely this has clogged the toilet.
Been there done that.
If not, it may be a coincidence, with the tree root problem.
And its time to call a plumber.
You obviously have a clog somewhere in the toilet system. One thing I recommend is go to the store and get some unclogging chemicals. Be careful though because some brands specifically say do not use on toilets. If that does not work then I say turn off your water supply so no more water comes into the tank and then flush all the water out. Now that your toilet is drained, buy a router and put it down the toilet and crank it and get that clog out.
By seal I assume you are refering to the wax ring. They are not meant to be repaired with silicone or anything else. They must be replaced when they fail. There is probably a fair amount of silicone that leaked through the gap in the ring, and is now partially obstructing the closet bend (drain)
You need to pull the toilet, remove the old wax ring/silicone, install a new wax ring, and re-seat the toilet. If you are in the U.S. get an Oatey brand, No-Seep. This is a wax ring mounted on a rubber flange that sits inside the closet bend. It does a better job of preventing leaks of liquids and waste gases than a plain wax ring.
Sorry, but thats funny. Your friend must have flushed the caulking tube…or something similar to clog it.
just snake it and find out whats shakin.
