Effluents are transported from the utilities to the sewer or septic tank with the help of drainage pipes. For household sewer systems, the inspection chambers are connected by pipes between them. The system is supposed to keep itself clean and prevent the occurrence of any blockage. The appropriate gradients are used to attain this. The most commonly used gradient in these systems is the UPVC tubing. It is essential to test the drainage system properly before allowing its use. The testing has to be conducted on the drain lines running between the chambers.

Drainage pipes should be laid in trenches. They can be three to five hundred millimeters in depth. Concrete structure is built to shield the system in case there is a walkway, parking zone or driveway above it. When commencing the work, excavate to the required levels. These must be inclined towards the sewers or effluent storage tanks. A one to four ratio is appropriate for the incline. The bottom of the trenches must be well compressed and jammed to give a secure base. Pegs can be used to set accurate levels in the trench bottoms.

The drainage pipes should never be laid down haphazardly, they are to be put in a straight line. The pipes should be connected with sockets leading uphill or in the direction of the building. The ground on which the systems lies should be even and solid. Male and female sockets should be connected using good quality adhesive. Make sure that you follow all the instructions for the adhesive, as specified by the manufacturer. At the joint of the pipe and inspection chamber, the pipe must be fixed properly upto the full wall thickness of the chamber. Pipes must be free of litter and internal obstructions.

Check all the drain pipes before installing them. This is to make sure that the pipes are free of punctures. Ensure the socket recesses are formed in the foundation. Keep them short where possible. The points at which pipes enter and leave an inspection chamber should be on a level with each other and properly graded. After fixing all the joints properly, the system then needs to be wrapped up with soil. Septic tanks or sewers can now be connected. To complete the procedure, create a connection between the drainage system and the utilities’ supply.
