underground drainage

what are the conseqences of smashing a hole into the main sewer run, sticking in a plastic soil pipe and burying it deep underground in the back garden as my neigbour has whilst bodging an extension? This is to take all his foul water.

plastic draisn are used in undergorund drainage. quite often they are used if there is a miss alignment between two existing pipes.
if your neighbour used the correct type then it shouldnt be an issue.

The correct type are usually pale / mid brown or possibly black.
if hes used the correct couplings (usually a rubber ring with 2 stainless jubliee clips on each end).

if its truly a bodge you could have a word with your neighbour, and or building control.. if hes pulling those sort of tricks then he will no doubt fall foul of other buildign control problems aswell.

anyone who breaks into a main drain to connect waste from any extensions, must involve building control, who will send out an inspector to test the drains using the smoke box or other equipment that pumps air into the drain. they even have cameras that can inspect the work to see if it is up to the specification and regulations.if their is a problem, they have the authority to make sure it is dug up and fitted properly. their should have been a visual inspection before it was backfilled and a final drain test witnessed by the drainage inspector on completion. if this has not been done and there is a blockage in the near future, it will be the properties upstream of the drain that will be affected and will bear the cost of calling out plumbers.not to mention the smell and nuisance suffered.

To work on any drainage you need to comply with building regs that means the work has to be inspected and passed by the building inspector before the trench is filled if this has not been done he is in trouble as it is a main sewer possibly a communial run he could be made to pay for any work that has to be carried out to make sure its working as it should (UK)
building inspector could make him build a inspection chamber

He has committed a “foul sin”. Building Control MUST be told and they will inspect any new connections from new buildings and the water company must be told as they also require to approve any new drainage connections.

If the authorities are any use they will get the job dug up and a proper connection made and a big bill will be submitted. If not a bigger bill will eventually come somebodies way when the drain blocks as it will soon or the ground collapses as it disappears into the drain.

You can report this anonymously if you wish.

First of all you need underground pipe to do this. Secondly , you do not smash a hole in a sewer pipe, you have to do the job according to building regulatios otherwise you can cause big problems with the sewrage run, and have a comeback from the council if other people whos seweragr is on the same pipe start having a problem. It has to be done properly and backfilled correctly.
