Air conditioning smell 2000 Ford Windstar?

The air conditioning in our van has a very bad odour when it is turned on. I have been told to see if the evaporator drain is clogged. Does anyone know where to find this drain in the engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Thanks everyone for your great answers. I will try your suggestions tonight

u know when u see a puddle of water under a car when the a/c is runnning that is what they r talking about.. it is in the dashboard in cased in the heater/a/c box, but what can do is look on the fire wall down low on the pass side there should be a rubber hose sticking out of the firewall. just find a thin piece of wire and stick it up there that should do it

I don’t know if this is the same problem, but every time we leave our 06 or 99 Lexus out in the heat for more than 2 hours, the air conditioner usually smells like dirty socks for the first 10-15 seconds. If it has a smell some-what or or similar to dirty socks, than that is totally normal.

yeah underneath the car on the passenger side under the hood.. takes a rack to put the vehicle on to even find it as it’s buried toward the firewall (it’s black and looks like a tube coming out)

The evap could be clogged, but if it appears to be drainign like the other person on top tells you to look for (the water puddles under the car).. you may have a issue that requires a deodorizer spraying into the a/c case to get rid of

The problem is most likely mold growth on the evaporator core. To reduce this, just run the fan only on high with no a/c for a minute or two after driving with the a/c on. This will dry the evaporator core, and inhibit mold growth.
